Instructions After Tooth Extraction

After a tooth extraction at KADIC Dental Clinic, it is essential to follow these instructions to ensure a smooth and comfortable recovery. Proper post-extraction care will promote healing and reduce the risk of complications.

Here are the instructions:

1. Bite on Gauze: Immediately after the extraction, gently bite down on the sterile gauze provided by our dental team. Maintain pressure on the extraction site for about 30 to 45 minutes. This helps control bleeding and allows a blood clot to form.

2. Avoid Disturbing the Blood Clot: Do not rinse your mouth vigorously, spit forcefully, or use a straw for the first 24 hours after the extraction. Avoid touching the extraction site with your fingers or tongue to prevent dislodging the blood clot.

3. Pain Management: Some discomfort or mild pain is normal after the extraction. Take any prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication as directed by your dentist. Applying a cold compress to the outside of your cheek for 15 minutes can help reduce swelling and relieve pain.

4. Proper Oral Hygiene: Continue to brush your teeth carefully, avoiding the extraction site for the first 24 hours. After the initial 24 hours, gently rinse your mouth with warm saltwater (1/2 teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of water) 2-3 times a day. This aids in keeping the area clean and promotes healing.

5. Soft Diet: Stick to a soft diet for the first few days after the extraction. Avoid hot, spicy, and crunchy foods that can irritate the extraction site. Opt for soups, yogurt, mashed potatoes, and soft fruits.

6. Avoid Smoking and Alcohol: Refrain from smoking and consuming alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours after the extraction, as these can delay healing and increase the risk of complications.

7. Take Prescribed Medications: If your dentist has prescribed antibiotics or other medications, be sure to take them as directed. Complete the full course of antibiotics if prescribed.

8. Avoid Physical Activity: Avoid strenuous physical activities for the first 24 hours after the extraction, as this can increase bleeding and slow down the healing process.

9. Attend Follow-up Appointments: Make sure to attend any follow-up appointments scheduled by your dentist to monitor the healing progress and address any concerns.

10. Report Any Complications: If you experience severe bleeding, excessive pain, swelling, or any other unusual symptoms, contact KADIC Dental Clinic immediately.
